Housing Selection Instructions for Continuing Students

These instructions apply to continuing students, including Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Graduate Students, and Doctoral Students returning for their second year.
If you are a new student (including students returning for a new degree), please refer to the Incoming Students Housing page.

Step 1: Complete Your Housing Application

All continuing students must complete their Housing Application through eRezlife.

Accessing the Housing Application

  • Students using eRezLife for the first time will need to activate their account before applying.
  • The Housing Application can be found on the Home tab under “Your Housing Application.”

Important Notes:

  • The housing lottery number is not based on how quickly you submit your application, so take your time.
  • If you have a housing scholarship or approved housing accommodations, be sure to apply by the priority deadline.

Key Dates

  • March 3 – Housing application opens in eRezLife
  • April 1 – Deadline for students with housing scholarships or approved housing accommodations
  • March 31 – Last day to submit the Physician Verification Form for housing and meal plan accommodations
  • April 6 – Final deadline for all continuing students to apply for housing

Step 2: Find Roommates

Students selecting a double or triple room must be part of a Roommate Group in eRezLife. Even if you prefer a single room, joining a Roommate Group is recommended in case singles fill up.

Ways to Find a Roommate

  • Time: 7:00 PM
  • Location: 6th Floor Lounge

Create a Roommate Profile & Search for Roommates

  • After completing your housing application, you can create a roommate profile to share details about your living preferences.
  • Browse potential roommates based on filters such as bedtime, cleanliness, and lifestyle habits.
  • A Step-by-Step Guide is available to help you navigate the Roommate Search feature in eRezLife.

Join or Create a Roommate Group

  • Once your housing application is complete, you can join or create a Roommate Group as long as all roommates have applied.
  • Refer to the last two pages of this Guide for instructions on creating or joining a Roommate Group.
  • Roommate Groups must be finalized before your housing selection time to ensure eligibility for shared rooms.

Step 3: Receive Your Housing Selection Timeslot

Housing Selection Process

  • Housing selection operates on a lottery system.
  • Applicants will receive a timeslot indicating when they can select housing.
  • Polar Points impact selection order. Students with more Polar Points will receive earlier selection times.

What to Expect

  • All students who apply by the deadline will receive a selection timeslot, even if they have no Polar Points.
  • Each timeslot includes 20-30 students, so be ready to log in and select housing as soon as your assigned time begins.
  • Housing selection timeslots will be sent via email on April 14.

All selection times are in Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Step 4: Select Your Room

How to Select Your Room

  1. Log into eRezLife at your assigned housing selection time.
  2. Follow the prompts to select your room.

Note: If selecting a double or triple room, all members of your Roommate Group must confirm the group preference before room selection.

Housing Selection Dates

  • April 15 – Rising Sophomores select housing
  • April 17 – Rising Upper-Class & Graduate Students select housing

For assistance during the housing selection process, feel free to stop by the Residence Life Offices on the 6th floor.

Housing Requirement

Rising sophomores are required to live on campus. So, make sure to complete your application on time to secure your preferred housing. Rising sophomores who don’t apply for housing on time, will be assigned to a room after the housing selection period.

Contract Binding

Continuing Student: Continuing students who apply during Housing Selection and are assigned a room are bound by the terms of the Residence Hall Agreement 5 business days after receiving their housing assignment. This includes required students (rising sophomores) and non-required students (juniors, seniors, second year graduate students, professional study and doctoral students.)

Housing Waitlists

Due to the first- and second-year undergraduate student residential requirements, specific floors and rooms will not be available for the housing selection process. This restriction will limit the number of spaces that will be readily available for continuing students to select and may result in a waitlist for housing. When the demand for space for first- and second-year students has been satisfied, additional spaces will be offered to students on the waitlist. Any additional questions can be answered by contacting the Office of Residence Life. Waitlisted students will be notified of their status and will be contacted and placed as rooms become available.
